How to sell toys and LEGO in the UK
Kids grow out of toys fast, and the good ones keep their value. LEGO in particular can sell for surprisingly good money, if you know whether you've got a complete set or a tub of bricks.
Sort first: sets, collectables and the rest
Before listing anything, split it into three piles:
- Complete or nearly complete sets, with the box or instructions if you have them. These are worth listing one by one.
- Collectable and branded toys: LEGO, Playmobil, Sylvanian Families, Pokémon cards, older action figures and anything from a popular film or series.
- Everything else, which sells best as themed bundles ("Toddler toy bundle", "Hot Wheels cars x 30").
LEGO: complete sets vs bulk
A complete LEGO set with its minifigures is usually worth much more than the same bricks sold loose. To find out what you have:
- Look for the set number on the box or the front of the instructions. Searching it brings up exactly which pieces and minifigures should be there.
- Check the minifigures first: they're often the most valuable part, and the most likely to be missing.
- Say clearly whether it's complete, nearly complete ("missing 3 small pieces") or incomplete.
Mixed loose bricks sell well too, usually as a bulk lot listed by weight ("2kg mixed LEGO bricks"). Pull out any minifigures and special pieces and list those separately.
Clean them up
Wipe plastic toys with warm soapy water and let them dry fully. LEGO can be washed in a mesh bag in warm (not hot) water. Fresh batteries in electronic toys help, so you can show they work. Dolls and soft toys sell better clean and with hair brushed.
Photos
Photograph the whole set or bundle laid out together, then close-ups of minifigures, any box, instructions and any damage. For electronic toys, a short video or a photo of it switched on helps. Show the scale with something familiar next to bigger items. See photos that sell.
Pricing
Search the set number or toy name on eBay and tick Sold items. For LEGO, specialist LEGO marketplaces also show what sets and parts actually sell for. Things that raise the price: complete, all minifigures present, box and instructions, retired sets, and popular themes. Missing pieces and sun-faded or yellowed bricks lower it.
Where to sell
- eBay for LEGO sets, collectables and anything people search for by name or number.
- Vinted for toys and toy bundles; sellers pay no selling fee.
- Facebook Marketplace for big or bulky toys like ride-ons, play kitchens and dolls' houses that are best collected.
