How to sell golf clubs in the UK
Golfers upgrade often, and there's a big market for good used clubs. Buyers are particular about specs though, so the listing needs the details a golfer checks first.
The specs golfers check
- Brand and model, and the year if you know it.
- Right- or left-handed. Left-handed clubs have fewer buyers, so say it clearly in the title.
- Loft for drivers, fairway woods, hybrids and wedges (often printed on the head, for example 10.5°).
- Shaft: steel or graphite, the brand and model, and the flex: L (ladies), A (senior), R (regular), S (stiff) or X (extra stiff).
- For irons, which clubs are in the set (for example 5 to PW).
- Length, if it's been made longer or shorter than standard, and the grip condition.
Sets or single clubs?
Popular drivers, putters and wedges usually sell best on their own, because golfers replace them one at a time. Iron sets sell as a set. Mixed bags of old clubs, or a beginner's half set with a bag, sell best as one lot to a new golfer.
Condition and cleaning
Clean the heads and grooves with warm soapy water and a brush, and wipe the shafts and grips. Then describe honestly: sky marks on the crown of a driver, chips on the sole, groove wear on wedges, and worn or shiny grips. Headcovers, adjustment tools and the original receipt all help.
Photos
Photograph each club's face, the sole, the back, and the top as a golfer would see it at address. Add a close-up of the shaft label showing the flex, and of the loft marking. For sets, lay the whole set out together, then close-ups of the most worn clubs.
Pricing and where to sell
Search the exact model on eBay and tick Sold items: eBay is the biggest place for used golf equipment. Facebook Marketplace and local golf groups work for full sets and bags you'd rather not post. Golf shops often offer trade-ins against new clubs: quicker, but usually for less than selling yourself.
Recent models, popular shafts, stiff and regular flex, and right-handed clubs sell fastest. Golf sells best in spring, as the season starts.
Posting clubs
Use a long, strong box, wrap the heads with bubble wrap or headcovers, and fill gaps so clubs can't move. Long parcels can cost more and some services have length limits, so measure before you set the postage. A full set with a bag is usually better collected.
