Decluttering? Where to sell each thing
A good clear-out can pay for itself, as long as each thing goes to the place its buyers are. Here is where different kinds of items sell best in the UK.
Sort first: sell, donate, recycle
Before you list anything, make three piles. Sell: things in good condition that people search for. Donate: decent things worth very little on their own. Recycle: anything broken or worn out. It stops you spending an hour listing something that will sell for a pound.
A quick test for the sell pile: would you pay for postage on it? If the item is worth less than the postage, bundle it, sell it locally, or donate it.

Work in batches
Clear-outs stall when every item is its own project. Batch the work: photograph ten things in one go in good light, write them up together, and post everything in one trip. It is quicker, and you end the day with a row of listings instead of a pile.
Selling safely
- Keep payment on the platform. Be wary of anyone asking to pay by bank transfer "to save fees".
- For local collection, meet somewhere public or have someone with you, and take payment before handing over.
- Always post with tracking, and keep your proof of postage.
