How to sell handbags online in the UK
A good handbag is one of the few things that can sell for close to what you paid, sometimes more. Buyers are careful though, so the listing has to answer their questions before they ask.
Where to sell
- Vinted for high street and mid-range brands, and plenty of designer too. Sellers pay no selling fee.
- eBay for designer and collectable bags, with buyers who search by exact model.
- Specialist resale sites for high-end designer pieces, if you'd rather they handle authentication and selling for a commission.
Vinted and eBay both offer authentication services for some higher-value designer items, which reassures buyers. Check what applies when you list.
Show it's genuine
Designer bags are widely faked, so buyers look for proof. Photograph clearly:
- The brand stamp or logo inside the bag.
- Any serial number, date code or authenticity card, where the brand uses one.
- Hardware engravings on zips, clasps and feet.
- The stitching, lining and any dust bag or box.
- The receipt or proof of purchase, if you still have it (cover your personal details).
Never list a bag as a brand you're not sure it is. If you can't prove it's genuine, an authentication service is worth it before selling.
Describe the condition honestly
Bag buyers zoom in on the corners, handles and inside. Mention, and photograph:
- Wear on the corners and the base.
- Darkening or cracking on handles and straps.
- Scratches on the hardware.
- Marks, pen or make-up inside the lining.
- Whether it keeps its shape, and any smell (like smoke or perfume).
Photos
Stuff the bag with paper so it holds its shape, and shoot it in daylight on a plain background: front, back, both sides, the base, the inside, the straps and close-ups of the details and any wear. A photo of it being worn helps buyers judge the size. Add the measurements: width, height, depth and strap drop. More in photos that sell.
Pricing
Search the exact model on Vinted and eBay and look at sold listings in similar condition. Classic shapes from well-known designer brands, in neutral colours, hold value best. A dust bag, box, card and receipt all add to the price. High street bags sell for much less than the original price, so price them to move, or bundle them with matching accessories.
Posting a bag
Stuff it with paper, put it in its dust bag (or a clean pillowcase), and pack it in a sturdy box so it isn't crushed. Use tracked, insured postage for anything valuable, and keep the receipt.
Snap the bag, get the listing
Photograph the bag and its details, and Snappy writes the title, an honest condition description and a suggested price for Vinted or eBay.

Classic designer shapes in neutral colours often do, and some sell for close to retail. Most high street bags sell for much less than they cost.
